The Brownshill Dolmen (Portal Tomb) is estimated to be over 5,000 years old and is reputed to have the heaviest capstone in Europe at c.100 tonnes

Carlow was the first inland town in Ireland or Britain to recieve Electricity courtesy of Milford Mills in 1891

St. Mullin's, located in the south of the county was the site of a 7th century monastic settlement, the ruins of which are still present today

Old Leighlin was the site of one of the largest monastic settlements in Ireland and the location for a church synod in 630 AD which determined the date of Easter
